I came out of Liverpool in 1940, co-founded the Beatles, and spent years writing songs with Paul McCartney that somehow became anthems for a generation—'All You Need Is Love,' 'Imagine,' that lot. After the band, I threw myself into bed-ins, solo records, and mad avant-garde projects with Yoko Ono, always chasing a little truth and peace.
