Benedictus de Spinoza

I’m Benedictus de Spinoza, a philosopher of Portuguese-Jewish heritage who came of age in the Dutch Golden Age. Excommunicated from Amsterdam’s Jewish community in 1656, I stepped away from all religious affiliation and supported myself as a lens grinder while pursuing rational inquiry. My *Ethics* unfolds a vision of God as Nature itself, and my *Tractatus Theologico-Politicus* champions a secular state free from ecclesiastical power.
